Issue #42 • March 2021

Dear Readers,

I am looking forward to summer... are you? I'm really hoping we can see friends again then. I'm keeping busy, at least, and glad to be so. There's a handful of stories I'm working on, books I'm editing and I'm into puzzling lately, and teaching with CWC. And reading quite a bit. I just got into a few mystery series.

Plus, the weather is starting to lighten which means that summer time is around the corner and we have lots of garden plans. First we have to build a proper garden near the house.

In terms of book news, I’m so thrilled that The Secret Fawn has been selected as part of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. This program is amazing. It’s a free program where each month children who are enrolled (birth - age 5) receive an age appropriate book in the mail, no charge. I’m really in love with all that Dolly does 💕❤️ and honoured that this book is part of her program. To find out more about the program, you can check out her website here.

I also got this really cute stamp to sign books for Secret Fawn, and some beautiful book plates for Bedtime Ballet. But it's sad that there are no book events to use them at. So, I’ve been trying to do a few giveaways on Instagram and via my newsletters!

Luke has been a bit busier on overtime, so I've had a chance to spend more time with Ori. We went out for breakfast the other morning, and it was really cute. He loved the croissant. Then we walked along the seashore and looked for seals. We didn't see any although he saw an otter the other day!

I have a March workshop starting soon at the Gibsons Public Library. It's over three weeks, one afternoon a week, for kids aspiring to be writers. I think the registration is full now, but if it goes well, I hope to host another one, and will let you all know when.

A few other little nice things:

- Colt of the Clouds was a Top Ten titles for the Ontario Library Association’s Best Bets Committee.

- Ori is loving books so much. He's starting to "read aloud" to me. Basically he's memorized the books.

If there is anything you'd like me to talk more about in these newsletters--interviewing someone from the industry like an editor or agent or illustrator, or talking about some part of the writing process, do let me know!

Hope you enjoy March--one step closer to warmer weather.

xx Kallie
