Issue #38 - November 2020

Dear Readers,

I'm writing this in the early morning, as I always do, since it's the brief period of time when I get to work quietly before everyone else wakes up. I am an early riser. I've always been a really early riser, even when I was really little. There is really something magical in this early morning time. Are you a morning or night person? Artist/author Elly MacKay has done a beautiful piece called Early Risers that I think really captures this magical time for me.

I've been plucking away at a few books including one all about cozy things. So if you have any cozy things that you love, do send me an email about them! Ori loves cozy things a lot lately--cozy sweaters and cuddling. My favourite thing right now is to go swimming with him and then get some breakfast after (all in safe socially distanced ways of course). There is something extra nice about getting a hot drink after an hour in the pool.

We have been sharing together all the f&gs of the new Greystone Kids titles that are coming in the Spring and our new Fall releases a lot. Ori loves this one - Animals Brag About Their Bottoms, a lot!

I'm very pleased and proud too that wonderful Julie Flett and her Greystone Books title, Birdsong, just won the TD Canadian Children's Literature Award!

In other news, Luke has been milling more lumber for our woodshed and he is building it TODAY! This is Ori from a few days ago standing on the stack:

Ori does love trees in all forms. I was really impressed that he did his first representational drawing. He drew trees. Of course! Upside down and right side up.

Last of all: we have welcomed in a new baby in our family. Not me but one of my family members!!!!! I have already showered them with all my baby things and now I get to shower them with love.)

xx

Kallie
